Seminars, workshops and membership offers coincide with Pink October

In conjunction with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is celebrated in October every year, the Sharjah Ladies Club Branches (SLCB) launched a breast cancer awareness programme, featuring an array of seminars, training workshops, sports activities and special membership offers, at Wadi Al Helo, AL Dhaid, Mleiha, Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn.
The programme, which runs until October 31, 2017, forms part of SLCB’s commitment to engage with international events and national initiatives that highlight social issues on the health and well-being of individuals and communities. The programme’s spectrum of activities focusses on promoting awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, addressing concerns and dispelling misconceptions.
Noora Ali Al Blooshi, Events Coordinator at SLCB, said: “We firmly believe that promoting awareness about the most widespread forms of cancer among women, particularly breast cancer, is a national and social responsibility. As one of the leading institutions that provides a safe environment for women and girls, we feel that we should play a leading role.
“Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide, representing 16% of all types of cancer in women. Statistics show that 1.1 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. It is a staggering figure which strengthens our determination in ensuring that the message of early detection is conveyed to as many women as possible,” she added.
SLCB provides ladies with free breast cancer testing and organises an array of awareness activities. The Wadi Al Helo SLC branch offered free tests and conducted awareness programmes to raise awareness about the disease. Al Dhaid SLC branch also hosted a lady who survived breast cancer to share her experiences, from diagnosis and treatment through to full recovery.
In conjunction with Pink October, the SLCB is providing members with special offers. The Layaqa Fitness Centre at Mleiha SLC branch offers special discounts on sports equipment, as well as on Zumba and aerobics sessions. The Layaqa Fitness Centre at Khorfakkan SLC branch conducted an awareness sport activity that saw a huge turnout of ladies and girls, while the Dibba Al Hisn SLC branch offered a 20% discount on subscriptions to the Layaqa Fitness Centre and partnered with Marasi restaurant, where a percentage of F&B sales were donated to cancer patients.
In line with the vision of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), ten branches of SLC were established across the Emirate of Sharjah in the Central and Eastern Regions. The branches were established at Khorfakkan, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn, Wadi Al Helo, Al Dhaid, Mleiha, Al Bataeh, Al Hamriya, Al Thamid and Al Madam.
The branches deliver premium cultural, social and recreational services as well as high-profile sporting events that align with SLC’s vision, mission and dedication to provide women and their children with state-of-the-art facilities in a safe environment that will develop their talents, elevate their skills and help them to meet their aspirations.
